alone
March 18, 2019
There will be times
Where you will be irrevocably alone…
Do not fear
It's a blessing in disguise
What appears to be a wolf
Is merely a sheep
And I know the despair of loneliness.
The fear of missing out
The boredom
The empty space
The choices and decisions you must now make
On your own.
What to do when you're
Alone.
It can feel suffocating
You are a fish out of water
In a new environment
That you don’t recognize
You are familiar with
The claustrophobia
Of people
Around you at all times
The crowd
The busy
The air of going, going, going
And to find yourself alone
Is
Absence
Absence of the noise
Absence of the pressure
Absence of what you believe
Was fulfillment and excitement
And the empty feels like it can swallow you whole…
I know loneliness well
But there is a difference in being lonely
And alone.
Alone you can finally take a deep breath
Settle in the comfort of your home
Or the coffee shop you like
Alone you can eat however you like
Lounge around in your underwear
Read the book collecting dust on your bookshelf
Draw, write
Watch the guilty pleasure shows
You are too afraid to let anyone to know about
Without stares or judgement
To be alone is to be free.
Alone in your world
To create
Express
To try new things
And absorb life around you
Unfiltered
Invisible to the world around you
You can be whoever you want to be
You can learn the nooks and crannies
Of whoever you might be
And when you are ready
After a mental break
Your friends and family are still there
And if not,
There are so many people in the world
To share
Everything you discover
